About Me
I am a soon to be graduate of the U of R’s Secondary Education Program with a major in Social Studies and minor in English Language Arts. I have a passion for life and engaging in deeper understandings of the world around us. Ben Harper’s song, Better Way can be played here by clicking on the song link that is featured here because I feel it exemplifies the spirit behind my choice in entering the field of Education and typifies the kind of impact I hope to make in whatever community I work within.
After completing my K-12 education in my hometown of Fort Qu’Appelle, SK, I have since had the opportunities to travel and backpack around to a few different countries such as New Zealand, Fiji, Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala as well as from the west coast to the east coast of Canada. Throughout my journeys, I am always reminded of how diverse this world is and how much a person can learn from having an open heart and mind to exploring the inter-connections and knowledge that can be found within our local and global communities.
My current professional development interests are geared around community based/project based learning initiatives, as well as the role that digital media technology can play in showcasing enhanced student learning through the course of these projects.
Prior to completing the my B.Ed., I have held one year positions as a Child Care Worker with the Ranch Ehrlo Society’s Supported Independent Living Program as well as a Teacher’s Assistant position with Cochrane High School’s Integrated Services Program. During my internship at Bert Fox Community High School in Fort Qu’Appelle, I taught Native Studies 10 and 30 as well as English 30 and Social 30. Each one of these practical experiences have informed my current educational practices and strides in improving the quality of education for the youth of today.
I see my emerging pedagogy within the field of education as something that will continue to develop and unfold as through experience, age and wisdom. I have set up this on-line portfolio to showcase this unfolding process. Please feel free to contact me anytime, should you feel so inclined.
